Ying Xue, D.N.Sc., R.N.

Ying Xue, D.N.Sc., R.N., is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Rochester. Dr. Xue’s research interests are nursing care processes, work environment, and the nature of the nursing workforce, as they impact organizational and quality of care outcomes in acute care settings. Dr. Xue is a research pioneer in the subject of supplemental RNs (SRN’s) and their role and effect on quality and costs. In 2007, she was awarded a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative (INQRI) to study the use and impact of SRNs on quality of care and cost. Her research under NFS will build on this initiative. Dr. Xue is a faculty member in doctoral education. She enjoys integration of her research and scholarship experiences into teaching. Prior to coming to the University of Rochester; Dr. Xue earned her doctoral degree in nursing at Yale University and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania.
